Khairi

Khairi, a large, brown German Shepherd type dog, turned up in November 2012 at the local wood workshop, where Birendra give her a box to give birth to her pups. She was in poor condition and the pups died. She was brought to Kate’s attention but she was wary and frightened. It took local children 2 weeks to catch her. Suffering from Postpartum debility, anorexia, diarrhea and mange, Khairi responded to good nutrition and treatment. Once spayed, she was returned to Karibot Chowk, but came back immediately. She had decided that the centre was her home. A gentle dog, but protective of her new home, she would have been a wonderful pet. She died on 20 November 2023.
