Karlu

Alerted by a resident Spanish couple, Kate found Karlu, a large, ginger dog, at the Boudhanath stupa in October 2014. He was lying on the ground, howling with pain at the slightest movement. He was taken to the vet, and his broken leg set in plaster. Unfortunately, his leg took many months to heal. The Spanish couple, who had hoped to adopt Karlu, had to return to Spain. Kate was uncomfortable about returning him to the stupa, given the length of time that he had been in care. He was a sweet-natured dog, well socialized to humans and other dogs. Sadly he died in October 2019 from kidney failure.
