Hello everyone, a brief update on CDWK during lockdown in Nepal. We are still functioning, our staff are working (fortunately, all live nearby), we are getting food for the dogs – all 110 of them! Our lockdown started some 12 days ago, and we expect it may well extend to the end of April, if not longer. We are wearing masks when out of the house and trying to shop is not easy in the Nepali context – they do like to group around the shops and push their way in! So far, nine cases of Covid-19 reported in Nepal.
Although Animal Medical Centre is open for urgent cases, we are too far away to take dogs there without transport, so we hope we don’t have any serious problems. At least there are fewer rescues of dogs with accident wounds as there are no motorbikes around!
Our two latest rescues are Khaire with TVT and a suspected tumour on his back and a Pup with possible parvo infection. We can’t do chemo for Khaire at present, so just keep his wound clean. The Pup is doing well following saline and a few essential injections.
The staff are continuing caring for the dogs and doing repairs and upgrading of the shelter. In particular, following reroofing the old house, they are now repairing the damaged mud brick walls to make the whole building more usable. Wish we could buy paint!
